Getting a little off track here, but had to look into the “fiber-optic boom of the late 1990’s”. We were barely getting dial up to work in my rural neck of the woods. Some places still top out with DSL there. Crazy to me how location plays such a huge role in the technology you will see in your life.

I couldn’t read this whole article without thinking it’s like saying the internet in 1992 was reaching a plateau.
The only analogy I can think of is maybe, HTML “plateaued” in the early 90’s. And the electric grid itself matured around the turn of the last century. But electricity and the internet didn’t stop driving industry forward.
