To the best of my knowledge, the more you do in anything, the better you get. Homework seemed to serve us well until all these studies came out and supposedly said not do. How do you get better at anything without repetition?
I kept running into students having extra curricular activities like martial arts, dance, Pewe football and basketball which would cause them to get in late. So I started allowing them to finish homework during morning work at school. I got the best return rate when I had them to write their own word problems with answer key to exchange with a class member the following day or sending them logic problems and 5 minute math mysteries to solve.
Who gives HW any more? Most teachers in my district stopped that 15 years ago. Nobody would do it, and it would just lower grades. Kids won't do anything if it's not graded. Work in class--only hw is if they are behind.
