There weren't any unexpected questions. For the assessment, you should have a good grasp on at least one programming language.
I do not like to disclose the questions, but the introductory interviews were general- aimed to know the background of the candidate. The take-home exam was huge, which required a lot of thinking, and elaborating. The technical session in the full-fledged interview was designed to know how the candidate thinks.
How can a mathematical modeller help in this industry? What do you think is the hardest part in modelling molten glass flow?
I was asked to explain how to solve a special case that complicates the machine learning process. I didn't know the answer. I just said so (which was appreciated) and I tried to creatively think out loud how I might have solved the issue.
I was shown a graph containing statistical data and asked to identify certain things about the data such as the mean.
