SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER
The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible to create the design strategy, perform primary design, manage sub-designers and deliver total design execution of custom tooling solutions for manufacturing composite structures with complex geometries and/or trapped features.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Must have strong tooling design and surfacing experience with CATIA V5 software and be able to perform advanced mechanical engineering calculations to ensure overall project design requirements are met
· Must be proficient in GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 2009
· Will lead design reviews with customers, suppliers, and/or other departments to ensure sound designs and drawing accuracy, including visits as necessary to customers and suppliers
· Responsible to communicate directly with internal and external customers on technical issues to get resolution of unknowns and required approvals
· Must be able to multi-task, switch on a dime, and assume responsibility for several projects at one time in differing levels of completion
· Must be able to handle multiple design iteration driven by internal (manufacturing, quality, etc.) or external stake holders (customers, vendors, etc.…)
· Highly desired to have experience with composites, resin injection processes and/or prepreg
· Will take a lead role in solving technical tooling problems throughout the project with assistance from Project Engineer and Management
· May manage large technical projects that require a number of supporting engineers and/or design firms
· Will help to develop engineering standards and methods that create an environment where quality products are consistently developed and executed
· Will prepare and present engineering change documentation to the project manager to get sign-off by the customer and/or directly to the customer on development and smaller projects
· Will be involved in composite ply design, laser projection setup to launch or maintain existing programs
· Will lead design of fixturing, gauges, and tooling aids including additive manufacturing (3D Printing)
· Will be tasked in setting up seed models to simplify and make design rollout of tooling and fixture more efficiency
· May participate in setting up PLM system roll out and maintenance
