Pros

The clients were very pleasant.

Cons

The manager was harassing me and telling to sweep up hair faster in between clients! This created a very stressful and toxic environment. I I have medical issues and she refused to let me take a ten minute break to eat or use bathroom. Don’t waste time working for this sad establishment! I was treated like an animal. Once I told her of my health issues she fired me the next day! It was like working in a swear shop/ concentration camp! The manager was concerned with wait times so she can get her bonus while others are burned out . Salon is completely understaffed!!!!! We are human beings not robots!!!!!! Work shouldn’t be an endurance test. After doing 5 haircuts every one deserves a break. Work isn’t supposed to be a survivor challenge! Total toxic work place that doesn’t care about individuals even if you have medical issues and are over 50. Don’t lose your health or dignity by being manipulated to work faster. There was nothing great about that place!

Pros

This job has given me excelent, flexible hours over 4 yeas of employment. They will give you as many or as few hours as you are lookng for based on your needs and provide a professional, drama free salon atmosphere to work in. Tips are good and the salon stays very busy.

Cons

There can be a high turnover of new people, but the same core staff has been there for years.

Pros

-Great as a first job in this field -Clients are guaranteed to a degree -Occasional training opportunities -Teaches new stylists skills they might not’ve been taught in school -Tips -Some benefits -PTO after 1 year -GC does not allow only one stylist to be on the floor, so unless management violates that policy, you will not be working alone

Cons

-Poor base pay (typically minimum wage or slightly higher) -Days are unpredictable, meaning you could have one day that’s extremely busy, then the next with only a few people the whole shift -Understaffed -You will be required to go to other salons to help if they happen to be understaffed -Management gets priority for days off -Roughly 1/3 of the year is unavailable for time off of any kind due to extensive “blackout days/periods” (can be anywhere from a single day to over a month, and last year’s blackout dates totaled up to about 130 days) -The price of the cuts are low, typically meaning tips will be lower, e.i. $2 tip on a $20 cut -You cannot guarantee you will build a clientele due to GC’s business model, nor does GC’s business model and plan support it -Expect long hours, sometimes 11 or more, without a break (per your state’s law) -Potentially multiple open to close shifts per week
