Pros

You’ll work alongside some of the most talented and mission-driven people in the industry. The products have potential, and many colleagues truly care about supporting educators and students. Unfortunately, that potential is consistently undermined by ineffective management.

Cons

The most consistent thing at Imagine Learning is inconsistency. Leadership is disorganized, overly sensitive, and largely unequipped to manage teams. Feedback, even when respectful and constructive, is often met with defensiveness, or in some cases, tears. Yes, literally. If you’re expecting emotionally mature leadership that can handle direct communication, you’ll be disappointed. You’ll be working under vague and constantly shifting expectations, and when things inevitably go wrong due to lack of direction, the blame is passed down the ladder. HR is no help. They don’t serve as a neutral party and will almost always side with leadership, even when serious concerns are raised. Reports go ignored, toxic behavior is tolerated, and employees are left feeling isolated and unsupported. Turnover is extremely high. In a single year, over half the team either transferred departments, quit, were laid off, or were terminated - hence the reason there’s been a position posted consistently. The instability is felt daily by the team, but the solution by management is toxic positivity or avoidance. On top of that, there have been multiple rounds of layoffs in the last couple years. They often target the most experienced, highest-paid, or most outspoken employees. It creates a culture of fear, instability, and silence, where keeping your head down feels safer than doing great work.

Pros

I worked with many talented, capable, and committed colleagues. The team comprised intelligent professionals who were collaborative and consistently produced high-quality work, despite working under demanding conditions. The role also provided exposure to large-scale curriculum development initiatives and cross-functional collaboration across multiple teams.

Cons

The day-to-day experience was shaped by a highly reactive operational environment. A significant portion of the work centered around revising curriculum to align with evolving standards and business priorities, often under compressed and shifting timelines. Support structures felt limited, particularly when navigating new workflows or shifting priorities. Requests for clarification or guidance were frequently constrained by time pressures and competing demands. Onboarding and transitions required employees to assume responsibilities quickly, with minimal time to absorb systems, workflows, or expectations fully. Many processes appeared to evolve alongside execution, creating a build-as-you-fly dynamic. Organizational clarity was a recurring challenge. Communication gaps, shifting priorities, and inconsistent visibility into broader initiatives made stable planning difficult. This contributed to a culture of ongoing urgency where workload pressure and stress were common across teams. The overall operational structure often felt disjointed relative to the scale of the organization, which significantly impacted workflow consistency and long-term planning.
