Pros

HAHA! Pros? There are none! Okay, it’s a paycheck. However, I would recommend selling all your belongings, your blood/plasma, sperm/eggs, and organs on the black market first … if, and ONLY if you still are desperate for some cash should you then accept a job offer here!

Cons

Well, you work here. That’s definitely a con! You’ll work on antiquated equipment, with zero support when there are issues. They use PeopleSoft, and think doing so keeps them competitive! (HA!) You’ll get an excellent review by your supervisor, only for it to be shot down by management. Your overall review will remain “excellent,” and to thank you for all your hard work, you’ll receive a 1% raise! Awesome! Management, for my department, is a team of buffoons. They only care about one side of the company (MSS), and those that support the other (MCIS) are worthless to them. Rumor has it they give a larger portion of the raises to the MSS side, too! You will NOT be given any path for career advancement, no matter how many times you ask. Unless, of course, they go through a large round of people fleeing, then to show they “promote from within” they’ll pick a handful of lucky people to pull up in the ranks. Almost like winning the lottery. But, not a lottery you should want to win. (Trust me, they are NOT doing this for the employees’ betterment.) Some senior employees do not do their fair share of work, while the majority of the mid-level employees do the bulk of the work. Don’t worry, you have that 1% raise to look forward to remember?

Pros

- Large and well financed company supporting individual contracts. - Responsive administrative and IT support outside of individual team processes and resources. - Outside of standard medical/insurance benefits they offer tuition reimbursement with University partners, IVF planning and discounts, career development, and more. - Team/Contract dependent. (can be pro or con) In my case, my team and experience was great. Intelligent/sharp, organized, productive, supportive, and empathetic. - Pace can be slower for government contract work (again, contract specific, can be pro or con depending on your style.) - Allows for team autonomy. - Offers fully remote positions.

Cons

- Contracts can be short term (3-5 years) and are not guaranteed to be renewed. There's no guarantee you will transition to another contract or team. - Some contract funding may be affected by government shutdowns, or outright descoped (think DOGE) - Very team/contract dependent. (can be pro or con) - Pace can be slower for government contract work (again, contract specific, can be pro or con depending on your style.) - Not as nimble as a smaller company or startup can be.

Pros

- Great Benefits Package - Continuing Education opportunities - Certification Reimbursement - Career Coaching

Cons

- Contract work, if the contract is lost, employees are most likely laid off - Difficulty placing employees on another contract despite having a mobility team - Red Flag: If contract is lost and company disputes the decision, find another job while you still have time rather than sink with the ship...
