Pros

strong sense of purpose “Do good. Be good. Make good.” isn’t just a slogan; it shows up in how people treat each other and how decisions are made. The culture feels supportive and people-focused, with a real emphasis on collaboration and doing the right thing for customers. I’ve also appreciated the opportunities to grow professionally and take on meaningful work that actually makes an impact.

Cons

Like any organization, there’s always room to improve, but overall NLG does a great job balancing business goals with a commitment to its employees and communities. It’s a place where you can feel proud of the work you’re doing.

Thanks for acknowledging our great atmosphere! We're glad you were a part of it (and impressed since landing an internship at National Life is competitive; it seems everyone wants to work here!). While it might not have been immediately apparent, the intern projects are valuable to our organization. There are times we implement the recommendations at a later date or we take some recommendations due to conflicting priorities. Either way, the results of our interns' collective work are always helpful.

Pros

Some benefits, not much else

Cons

New employees especially in the Transfers department are thrown into complicated roles with zero real training, no documentation, and no support, yet the company expects perfection. Managers who aren’t trained themselves are somehow responsible for our performance reviews, which is unbelievable. The workload is unrealistic, the stress is nonstop, and the weekly meetings are pointless and never improve anything. Mistakes (which come from lack of training) are handled by publicly embarrassing employees in front of others, while rude and disrespectful coworkers face absolutely no consequences. Favoritism is blatant, support is nonexistent, and the company makes it painfully clear that customers and agents matter more than the people doing the actual work. It’s a toxic, draining environment where employee concerns are ignored and nothing ever changes.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. Building a culture where everyone is shown respect is critical; what you’ve shared is not the type of organization we’re working to build. We encourage you to please share your concerns with your manager, your People Center Business Partner, or directly with me so we can address these issues. My door is always open. Michael Veilleux
