Pros

- Pay is competitive for the San Antonio area - Two story slide - Decent computer equipment - Software-focused company

Cons

Ever since I joined the company over a year ago, the famous "Racker culture" has been going downhill. It used to be about "work hard, play hard", but the "play" part has gone out window. Rackspace also has a list of core values that has long since been thrown aside. The final nail in the coffin hit today. Pokemon Go was completely banned on Rackspace premises for made up reasons involving security. Either our security experts are completely not qualified, or there's another unstated reason and our core value of "transparency" is completely dead. Rackspace is trying to grow into a big company, and they're stumbling hard. They're throwing out a lot of the good and replacing it with directives coming from inexperienced managers.

Pros

Rackspace has a lot of smart, capable people who genuinely care about customers. The work can be interesting, especially if you enjoy complex environments and problem-solving. The company offers solid benefits, flexible work-from-home options, and exposure to large enterprise customers. There are pockets of strong collaboration, and when teams are aligned, good work can happen.

Cons

Leadership direction and expectations can feel inconsistent, particularly within sales. Metrics and performance expectations are sometimes set without fully accounting for account maturity, inherited books of business, or sales cycle realities. Reorganizations, shifting strategies, and frequent changes in leadership create uncertainty and make it difficult to build sustained momentum. Coaching and performance processes can feel reactive rather than developmental, and communication around expectations is not always clear or timely.
